Crewkerne Bowls Club is a non-profit-making organisation. Membership of the club is open to anyone interested in lawn bowls regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs, or disability (except as a direct and necessary consequence of the requirements of the game of bowls).
New bowlers - Do pop up Friday evening and talk to us. Early in the Season we have TWO open days, a Bring -A-Friend and an Open Day, LOOK OUT FOR THEM. There is a full program of non- league and non-competition bowls when new bowlers can receive coaching. FRIDAY NIGHT IS CLUB NIGHT- The first stage! An opportunity for newcomers to get a bit of coaching and advice or just have rollup. Derek Lush usually runs an Umbrella - you will have to come along to find out what that is! WEDNESDAY TRIPLES. A very popular Mixed Club Competition is run on Wednesday evenings by Dave and Linda Pretty. Open to all members. A friendly league competition with a Trophy for the winners. New players are in teams containing more seasoned players who will help and guide them through a more competitive game.
CLUB COMPETITIONS Singles- men, ladies and non-winners! Pairs- men, ladies and mixed! Aussie pairs -mixed! Captain V President! A lot of formats in which new bowlers can hone their skills. Club competitions are ably organised by Andy Gready, present Men's Champion.
LEAGUE MATCHES Play against Somerset teams from Merriott to Watchet, Lyme Regis to Gillingham, South Petherton to North Petherton! The Ladies have teams in SW League, which is a competitive league and also play series of Competitive Friendlies. The ladies captain is Lynne Gready, present ladies' champion The Men have a team in Somerset County League (teams of 4). A very competitive league. Present Men's captain is Bryan Atherton. We also play in the Wessex Mixed Friendly League (teams of 4). This is fine league for those new bowlers who wish to push themselves. It is a competitive league but, as its name suggests,Friendly, Winning is not everything.
SOCIAL EVENTS We have a very active Committee who arrange great social evenings, Game and chip supper evening! Quiz Nights! Karaoke, Games Night, Coffee mornings! And More!
THE HEART OF THE CLUB. The Green Team has spent a lot of time and effort over the last year on bringing the green up to scratch. It can be truthfully said that it is looking very good now and promises consistent and reliable bowling in 2022. The Club is no longer thatched but is a fine building with two balconies offering the best view of a match in the County! A well-stocked bar with competitive price - the icing on the cake or the top on the pint!
